Race Director Answers Questions
|
1. Each team will consist of seven (7) runners and two (2) support
vehicles with their team number placed in large print on their
vehicle. No bicycles will be allowed on the course as escort or
team support. Any and all changes of team members must be made
prior to the start of the race. The use of a runner not listed
before the start of the race will be cause for disqualification
of the team in violation of this rule.
2. Every team must have at least two (2) cellular phones, one
with each vehicle. Each team will register their cellular phone
numbers with the race director at the Captains meeting.
3. Each team member must run three relay legs. No team member
is allowed to run consecutive legs. The relay baton must be
passed from one runner to another in every exchange zone.
4. All teams must check in at Neil Blaisdell Park at least
one hour prior to their assigned start time. All teams may start
the checking in one hour prior to the start of the first wave
of teams. The first start will be at 7 PM. Due to the traffic
congestion, it is requested that only the lead runners be in
the starting area at the start of the relay race.
5. There will be a Mid-Pacific Road Runners Club sponsored
refreshment/aid station at every exchange zone, consisting of
Gatorade, water, fruit and energy bars. It is recommended that
you drop off your runners far in advance at the exchange zones.
6. All runners will be required to wear a reflective safety
vest while running in the race. Relay runners must have their
bib number in clear sight on their front. Pacing and escorting
of relay runners is prohibited and will be grounds for disqualification.
7. Support vehicles are prohibited from parking on the side
of the road along the race route. Support vehicles are not allowed
to follow any runner; violating this rule will be cause for
disqualification of the team belonging to the vehicle in violation.
8. There will be Police traffic control at every traffic signal,
at all intersections and at every exchange zone. There will
also be race officials monitoring the race route through out
the race. The rules are for your safety and not to be taken
lightly. Violations of the race rules will be cause for immediate
disqualification. Disqualified teams will be asked to turn in
their bib numbers on the spot and sent home.
9. Baton hand-offs must only be made in the designated exchange
zone. Any team
observed handing off anywhere other than the designated exchange
zones will be disqualified from place consideration.
10. All teams are responsible to know the race route, however,
if a team should make a wrong turn or miss a turn, they should
retrace their steps and return to the correct route and they
will not be disqualified. If a team happens to go the wrong
direction and their mistake takes them an extended distance,
their mishap may be reviewed and not penalized.
11. Should a team drop out, they are required to notify the
race organizers.
12. The progress of all teams will be monitored and as long
as a team is "running" the finish line will remain
open. Every team's progress will be checked after 4 PM on Sunday,
February 27th.
Safety Concerns
1. Even though we will have the Honolulu Police
Officers for traffic control and security, we do not have full
use of the roads and you are advised to run facing traffic unless
you can run in a bike lane, jogging path or on a sidewalk. Always
stay to the side of the roadway and please report any dangerous
conditions you may observe.
2. Please use extreme caution when running during
the hours of darkness and do not take unnecessary chances at any
time. Victory is just completing this event.
3. Please be quiet during the hours of darkness,
as we do not want to disturb the communities we will be passing
thru.
Advise
1. Have every member of your team and your drivers, read and keep
a copy of these rules. The excuse of "I DIDN'T KNOW"
will not be accepted if there is a violation of the written rules.
2. Check out the course before the day of the Captains
meeting. Write down any questions or concerns and feel free to
call the race director, Ron Pate (589-2646) before the captains
meeting at Kapiolani Park.
3. Make sure that every team member has the race director's cellular
number and do not hesitate to call "911" in the case
of an extreme emergency.
4. Please make an "Honest effort" to estimate
your finishing time accurately because there will be no time adjustments
at Kaena Point except for the teams that start at eleven PM (11
PM).
Have a safe and enjoyable race.
